Warningsocial.og-title

No og:title for link previews

Why it matters

og:title is the headline of the card people see when your link is shared. Without it, networks fall back to the page's <title>, which is written for search results ("Wedding cakes in Leeds | Flour & Co | Home") rather than for a feed. It is one of the four properties the Open Graph protocol requires, and LinkedIn and WhatsApp list it as required for a preview.

Sources: The Open Graph protocol; LinkedIn: make your website shareable. No network publishes a length limit; cards are seen to cut titles from about 88 characters (70 on X).

How to fix it

Add inside <head>, written as a headline, without the site name tacked on:

<meta property="og:title" content="Wedding cakes in Leeds, made to order" />

Examples

These are the rule's own test pages, and what it says about each. They are run on every change to the rule book.

<meta property="og:title" content="Wedding cakes, birthday cakes, cupcakes, brownies and celebration bakes in Leeds, made to order and delivered">

NoticeThe og:title is 109 characters; preview cards start cutting at about 88.
